An Iran International investigation found Iranian security forces deployed snipers on government rooftops in Semnan during the January 2026 protests, firing live ammunition at demonstrators. The positions included the provincial Friday prayer leader’s office, a women’s student dormitory and the state broadcaster’s headquarters, according to eyewitness accounts and verified footage. The report also said hospital officials cooperated with security agencies to identify and arrest wounded protesters, sometimes before they received medical care. On January 9, forces raided another student dormitory.
