In an unusual turn of events, a collection of high-performance motorcycles, valued at around US$40 million, will be auctioned off next week in Mexico City. These motorcycles, seized from properties linked to Ryan Wedding, a man accused of serious crimes including conspiracy and murder, will be sold to the public. The auction, organized by INDEP, the Mexican agency responsible for returning stolen assets to the people, aims to fund social services, transforming the legacy of alleged criminal activities into public benefit.
The motorcycles, which include prestigious brands such as Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Suzuki, and Yamaha, were discovered during law enforcement raids in December 2025. These raids targeted locations associated with Wedding, who was one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives at the time. Following his arrest in January 2026, Wedding was extradited to the United States, where he currently faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and murder. He has pleaded not guilty to these allegations.
The auction will feature an impressive array of motorcycles, some of which have a storied history in professional racing. Simon Patterson, a journalist specializing in MotoGP, described the collection as extraordinary, noting that many of the bikes are akin to the two-wheeled equivalents of Formula 1 cars. The auction will include models from various decades, with starting bids ranging from approximately C$1,600 to C$192,000, appealing to both collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The U.S. Treasury Department has indicated that Wedding laundered his wealth through a complex network involving various associates and luxury assets, including cars and motorcycles. In a related seizure, the FBI confiscated a rare 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster, valued at $13 million, which was purchased by a jeweler in the Toronto area, identified as one of Wedding's key money launderers.
Scheduled for November 11 and 12, the auction will take place at a banquet hall in Mexico City, with registration required by November 10. This event is part of a larger sale that includes 620 lots, featuring armored vehicles, boats, and even aircraft. For bidders, the allure lies not only in the rarity and engineering of the motorcycles but also in the knowledge that the proceeds will contribute to social services, providing a small measure of justice in the wake of Wedding's alleged criminal activities.
The auction represents a unique intersection of law enforcement, public interest, and the world of high-performance motorcycles, showcasing how seized assets can be repurposed for the greater good.
