Putin’s Bot Army Targets German and French Elections to Polarize Europe, Sweden Warns

Sweden’s Psychological Defence Agency chief Magnus Hjort says Russia may use bot networks and disinformation to influence upcoming elections in Germany and France. He warned that Moscow views the votes as opportunities to polarize European societies and weaken public support for aid to Ukraine. The campaigns allegedly spread fabricated stories about Ukraine through social media. Hjort urged platforms including X, TikTok and Facebook to dismantle automated networks. Sweden has identified one Russian-aligned network with roughly 1,200 accounts targeting multiple countries.
