EU ambassadors failed to approve an extension of sanctions against more than 3,000 Russian individuals and companies linked to violations of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The measures are due to expire on September 15, creating pressure for a compromise before the deadline. Slovakia has reportedly sought a shorter six-month renewal and removal of several names, while France also opposed the proposed extension. The issue was sent back for further negotiations, raising concerns that internal divisions could weaken the bloc’s sanctions policy
