Wilson Joseph, leader of the 400 Mawozo gang, has asked the United Nations to send a delegation to Haiti for dialogue and mediation. In a letter to Secretary-General António Guterres, Joseph warned that tensions could worsen after El Salvador deployed more than 2,000 troops following the October 18 disappearance of four Salvadoran aviation technicians. He said civilians could suffer from reprisals and called for a peaceful solution. The appeal comes as clashes intensify between armed groups and Haitian and international security forces near Port-au-Prince.
