Pope Leo XIV will miss a planned visit to Assisi next week after doctors advised him not to travel while recovering from lung surgery, the Vatican said Friday. He had been scheduled to attend an Oct. 27 gathering marking the 40th anniversary of St. John Paul II’s World Day of Prayer for Peace. Leo will send a message to participants instead. The gathering marks four decades since the interfaith meeting convened by St. John Paul II in Assisi in 1986.
