Nicaragua has cut diplomatic ties with Italy in a dispute over Italy’s refusal to extradite a man convicted in the 1978 kidnapping and murder of former Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro. Nicaragua’s foreign ministry said the rupture followed comments from Italy’s foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, who criticized Nicaragua for harboring and granting citizenship to Alessio Casimirri, a former member of the Red Brigades. Italy said it will keep calling for Casimirri’s extradition, but Nicaragua’s constitution bars extraditing its own citizens.
