Mystery of Amelia Earhart’s missing plane could be solved in days, researchers say

A Purdue University and Archaeological Legacy Institute team has reached Nikumaroro, Kiribati, to investigate an object in a lagoon that researchers believe could be Earhart’s Lockheed Electra. Expedition leader Rick Pettigrew said identification may be possible within a day or two. The object, dubbed the Taraia Object, was spotted in satellite imagery in 2020 and appears in photos from 1938. Researchers plan to document and scan the area, while skeptics say the shape may be a fallen tree, not an aircraft.
