Mexico City, Mexico— One person was killed Saturday in a fatal armed robbery assault near a busy transit hub in Mexico City.
The attack occurred at 6:30 p.m. on October 25, 2026 outside the Indios Verdes transit terminal in Gustavo A. Madero borough. The terminal handles thousands of commuters daily. The victim, a 29-year-old male vendor, was walking toward the metro entrance carrying a backpack with daily sales.
Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana said a lone gunman approached from behind and demanded the backpack. The victim resisted and was shot once in the chest at close range. The shooter grabbed the backpack and fled through a crowd toward a waiting motorcycle.
Witnesses said the lot was packed and noisy with buses departing. People first thought the shot was a firecracker. Then the victim fell near a food stall. Vendors tried to stop bleeding with cloths.
"He just wanted his money. He worked all day selling phone cases," a fellow vendor who knew the victim said. "The robber did not say much. He shot and ran."
El Universal reported the victim was a regular vendor at the terminal, known to security staff. He sold accessories inside the terminal for three years. The backpack contained an estimated 8,000 pesos in cash and merchandise.
SSC officers arrived in four minutes and secured the scene. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at 6:48 p.m. The motorcycle, described as a black Italika without plates, was last seen heading north on Avenida Insurgentes.
Police reviewed CCTV from the terminal’s private security system. Footage showed the suspect wearing a gray hoodie, black cap, and face mask. Officers collected a single 9mm casing near the food stall.
The transit hub remained open but with reduced access. Commuters were rerouted around the crime scene tape. Family members arrived and were escorted by police.
No arrests had been made by late Saturday. Detectives said robberies near Indios Verdes have risen in recent months due to crowds and low lighting at the periphery.
The investigation remains open while forensic analysis continues.
