Melbourne Nightclub Terror: Three Teenagers in Custody After Violent Assaults

MELBOURNE — A popular entertainment precinct has been thrown into chaos following a series of calculated attacks on a well-known inner-city venue, culminating in the arrest of three teenagers. The dramatic arrests are part of a broader crackdown by Victoria Police as they scramble to contain what authorities are describing as a dangerous escalating trend of targeted property violence and extortion rocking the city's hospitality industry.

The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, May 15, 2026 outside Bar Bambi, a popular cocktail lounge tucked away in Melbourne's iconic AC/DC Lane.

According to police reports, patrolling officers spotted a white vehicle pulling up outside the venue at approximately 4:45 AM. Two teenage boys ran from the car carrying a red jerry can. The suspects allegedly smashed a front window of the shuttered venue and attempted to pour fuel inside before igniting it.

Fortunately, undercover officers heavily monitoring the area intervened instantly. The two 16-year-old boys were tackled to the ground and arrested at the scene. A third teenager, who acted as the getaway driver, fled the scene in a white wagon and remains at large.

However, investigators confirmed that these arrests follow a separate incident late last month on April 25, where three teenagers were successfully taken into custody and charged over a similar strike against the exact same venue.

"This is the third time in just over a month that this specific location has been targeted," said an investigator close to the case. "The audacity of these repeat strikes is putting innocent lives and local businesses at massive risk."

The arrests have exposed a deeply troubling modus operandi. Victoria Police's Operation Eclipse—a specialized task force targeting hospitality extortion and arson—revealed that these teenagers are not acting alone.

Detectives allege that sophisticated criminal syndicates, some operating via encrypted apps, are actively recruiting vulnerable youth to carry out fire bombings and physical intimidation in exchange for quick cash. By using minors, the organizers hope to shield themselves from primary prosecution.

The recurring violence has left Melbourne’s hospitality sector on a knife-edge. Just 24 hours prior to the latest attack, State Opposition Leader Jess Wilson had held a forum at the venue to address growing safety concerns.

Following the incident, pressure has mounted heavily on the state government to enforce stricter bail laws and bolster frontline police numbers to protect the city's nightlife economy.

The two 16-year-old boys arrested Friday face a string of serious charges, including attempted criminal damage by fire, reckless conduct endangering life, burglary, and handling stolen goods.

As the two teens await their appearance in a children's court, Operation Eclipse detectives say their primary focus is now shifting up the ladder. Police are actively tracking the digital footprints on seized electronic devices to catch the organized crime bosses pulling the strings behind the scenes.
