Massive Fire Breaks Out at Drone Production Factory in Southern Poland

A major fire has damaged a key defense facility in Skarżysko-Kamienna, southern Poland, after a blaze erupted inside a drone component manufacturing plant. The facility, operated by defense manufacturer WB Electronics, produces specialized systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) used by both the Polish military and Ukrainian armed forces. Polish counterintelligence agencies have launched an urgent investigation following reports of a potential security breach at the site.

The fire began shortly after midnight in an assembly section of the plant. Firefighting crews responded rapidly to contain the flames, preventing the blaze from consuming adjacent electronic component warehouses.

Because the plant was non-operational at the time of the incident, emergency services confirmed that no workers were inside and no injuries were reported.

Security sensors and CCTV cameras registered a masked individual trespassing over the perimeter fence moments before the fire started. In response, law enforcement search teams uncovered discarded clothing items near the facility boundary, prompting an immediate canine search of the surrounding area. Meanwhile, firefighters successfully subdued the flames within two hours, though one production area suffered heavy destruction.

Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) and Military Counterintelligence Service have taken oversight of the investigation alongside local police. Authorities are treating the incident as potential arson and sabotage, amid a broader pattern of unexplained fires and security threats at European defense manufacturing sites.

Officials urged caution against public speculation while forensic teams complete their assessment of the facility. Operations at the affected department remain suspended as security personnel continue to sweep the site.

Regional security analysts note that this event adds to a growing series of suspicious incidents targeting European defense infrastructure supporting Ukraine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the nation shortly after the briefing, reassuring citizens that state services are operating at maximum readiness to counter potential hybrid threats and secure domestic critical supply lines.

Meanwhile, industry representatives confirm that secondary facilities are already scaling up output to handle the diverted workload. Defense contractors across Poland have heightened security alert levels, introducing strict access controls and increased patrol frequencies around all primary production campuses.
