BORNO STATE, NIGERIA — The Air Component of Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, has delivered a major tactical blow to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). A precision air strike conducted in the Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State eliminated more than 40 insurgent fighters, including a high-ranking field commander.
The operation was launched following detailed intelligence and surveillance reports indicating a gathering of ISWAP operatives at a clandestine hideout in Badu village, situated south of Gudumbali. Aircraft dispatched to the target area delivered direct precision munitions on the staging area, completely neutralizing the gathering and destroying associated operational equipment and vehicles.
Military intelligence sources confirmed that the insurgents were actively preparing to execute coordinated attacks against civilian and military positions in the Lake Chad basin prior to the strike.
The successful aerial bombardment resulted in the destruction of critical insurgent infrastructure, logistics caches, and transport assets. Defense officials stated that the elimination of the prominent commander and dozens of experienced fighters represents a severe setback to the terrorist network's ability to plan and carry out further destabilizing operations in the region.
"The destruction of this enclave and its key leadership significantly weakens the operational capacity of ISWAP in the Lake Chad region. Our forces remain committed to sustaining aggressive air and ground campaigns until peace and security are fully restored."— Spokesperson, Operation Hadin Kai
Battle damage assessments are continuing across Guzamala LGA as ground troops advance to consolidate control over the area. The Nigerian military has reiterated its call for local communities to maintain vigilance and continue providing actionable intelligence to security forces to aid ongoing counter-insurgency efforts across the Northeast region.
Following the strike, local security analysts noted that the elimination of senior leadership is expected to trigger further internal power struggles within ISWAP's operational hierarchy. Regional defense experts emphasize that while precision aerial bombardments continue to severely disrupt insurgent command structures, sustained joint border patrols and community-led intelligence sharing will remain vital to preventing remaining cells from regrouping across the Lake Chad basin.
