Logs Washed Ashore After Flash Floods in Aek Garoga, North Sumatra

Residents of Aek Garoga Village in Batang Toru Subdistrict, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, observed numerous logs washed ashore following flash floods on Saturday (November 29). The sudden flooding, triggered by heavy rainfall, caused rivers to overflow, carrying logs and debris downstream.

Local authorities reported that, while there were no casualties, the floods disrupted riverbank areas and raised concerns about the safety of nearby communities. Disaster response teams have been deployed to assess the situation and remove logs and other debris to restore safe access.

Experts indicated that the logs likely originated from upstream areas affected by logging activities, highlighting ongoing challenges in river and forest management. Residents are urged to remain cautious around flooded areas until water levels recede.

The event underscores the vulnerability of North Sumatra’s communities to flash floods and the importance of coordinated disaster preparedness and environmental monitoring.
