Armed Israeli settlers beat AFP photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh on Tuesday as he covered violence against Palestinian olive farmers near Aqraba in the occupied West Bank. Witnesses said men struck him with rifle butts while he tried to reach a press-marked car. He was taken to a hospital in Nablus for treatment and observation. A Palestinian man was also hospitalized after being shot in the foot. Colleague John Wessels said Israeli soldiers were nearby but did not intervene. AFP and press groups called for an investigation.
