Israeli firm’s digital ads enabling installation of ‘zero-click’ spyware, researchers say

Citizen Lab researchers say Israeli ad company Discover-Tech helped deliver zero-click spyware through targeted online ads. The attack, called AdFection, could infect a device when an ad appeared, without a click. Researchers linked the campaign to Candiru spyware and said at least 45 devices at Al Jazeera were targeted. Discover-Tech ads appeared on more than 120,000 websites and 70,000 mobile apps between March and June 2026. Google removed the firm from its ad platforms after the findings became public Thursday.
