Ireland to Create Public Register of Domestic Violence Offenders

Ireland has approved legislation that would establish a public register naming people convicted of domestic violence offenses involving a current or former partner. The measure—known as “Jennie’s Law” after Jennifer Poole—is intended to help survivors make informed decisions about relationships. The register would be hosted by the Courts Service, and the convicted person would only be named if the relevant survivor provides consent.

Ireland to Create Public Register of Domestic Violence Offenders

Ireland is set to create a public register of people convicted of domestic violence against a current or former partner, after the legislation was approved by TDs. The plan, nicknamed “Jennie’s Law” after Jennifer Poole, would allow convicted offenders to be publicly named on a register. The Courts Service would host the register online. A key feature is consent: survivors must agree before an offender can be included. The offences covered include serious violent and sexual crimes, harassment, threats, and related offenses involving partners.
