Inferno Near the Border: Massive Fire Devastates Major Food Factories Near Sderot

SDEROT, Israel — A catastrophic industrial fire tore through a major warehouse and factory complex in Sderot's industrial zone on Monday, July 27, 2026, decimating key infrastructure for two of the nation's largest food manufacturers. The crisis escalated dramatically when Israel Fire and Rescue Services detected what was initially identified as an ammonia leak stemming from a facility adjacent to the burning warehouses. Ammonia, heavily utilized in industrial refrigeration systems for food processing, poses severe respiratory risks if released into the atmosphere.

Fearing toxic exposure, authorities instantly ordered a full evacuation of Sderot’s entire industrial zone, forcing hundreds of workers to flee. Concurrently, the Sderot Municipality instructed residents in the nearby "Music Neighborhood" to shelter in place, seal their doors, and close all windows as a protective measure.

Hazardous materials specialists spent hours conducting atmospheric testing at the site. While early alerts sparked high alarm, officials later ruled out a catastrophic chemical breach once the immediate perimeter was secured.
