India’s Defence Acquisition Council approved the procurement of additional self-propelled tracked guns for the Army on October 26, 2026. The approval follows reports that the Army was considering more than 300 K-9 Vajra-T howitzers, an Indian-made version of South Korea’s K-9 Thunder. Earlier reporting put the proposed order at about 300 guns and roughly $2.4 billion; the council’s approval announcement did not confirm the 335-unit, $2.1 billion figures. The system is intended to strengthen artillery capabilities along India’s borders with China and Pakistan.
