A Michelin-starred restaurant owner in South Korea could face up to one year in prison after prosecutors alleged the kitchen garnished sherbet desserts with dried ants. Authorities say the restaurant served about 49,000 ants across roughly 12,200 dishes. Prosecutors focused not just on the insects, but on South Korea’s food laws, which restrict which insects can be sold for human consumption. The health ministry also alleged heavy metals in the ants exceeded limits for other edible insects. A court verdict is expected in September.
