Germany Begins Nord Stream Sabotage Trial as Prosecutors Allege Ukrainian State Links

A German trial over the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions is set to begin in Hamburg on October 14, 2026. The sole defendant, former Ukrainian special forces officer Serhii K., is accused of helping lead a team that planted explosives on the pipelines in the Baltic Sea. Prosecutors allege the group acted “on behalf of state authorities in Ukraine” and describe the attack on civilian infrastructure as a war crime. Kyiv denies involvement, and Serhii K. says he is innocent.
