France Highway Horror as Lorry Crashes: Two Critically Injured, Lanes Closed After High-Speed Impact Near Paris

Paris, France— The truck did not slow. On Tuesday morning a commercial lorry traveling at high speed on the A6 autoroute south of Paris lost control, hit the central barrier, and jackknifed across three lanes. Two people are critically injured.

Le Parisien said the crash happened at 7:25 a.m. near Évry-Courcouronnes, on a stretch where trucks merge from the A10. The lorry, carrying pallets of building materials, swerved to avoid a car that braked hard. The driver overcorrected. The trailer swung.

A car behind slammed into the trailer's side. Its driver and passenger were trapped. Firefighters from Essonne spent 45 minutes cutting the roof. Both were taken to Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital with severe trauma. The lorry driver escaped with minor cuts.

"It was like the truck was pushed," a commuter stuck in the jam said, filming from his window. "Smoke, screeching, then it was sideways. No one could pass." Traffic stopped for five kilometers. Morning rush hour collapsed.

Autoroute operator APRR closed two northbound lanes and one southbound for investigation and cleanup. Diesel spilled across 200 meters. Sand trucks were called to absorb it. Drones mapped the scene. The highway reopened at 11:40 a.m., but delays lasted past noon.

Heavy truck crashes have risen on the A6 by 12 percent this year, according to transport ministry data. Speed, fatigue, and overloaded trailers are cited. The government announced new tachograph checks last month. Enforcement remains patchy.

The prefecture said blood samples were taken from both drivers for toxicology. The lorry's tachograph shows it was traveling at 92 kmph in a 90 zone at impact. The car was at 118.

Prosecutors opened a probe for involuntary injury. The lorry company said it is cooperating and that the driver had rested per regulations.

Tonight the highway is open and the skid marks are still there. Two people fight for life in intensive care.
