France and 30 Other Countries Condemn Iran’s Executions of Protesters

France and 30 other countries, joined by the European Union’s top diplomat, issued a joint declaration condemning Iran’s executions of protesters and use of the death penalty. The statement said capital punishment is being used to “silence dissent” and intimidate communities and warned it “can never be justified.” Signatories called on Iran to immediately end executions and release people who were arbitrarily detained.
