Flash Floods Sweep Logs Ashore in Batang Toru, North Sumatra

Flash floods struck Batang Toru Subdistrict in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, resulting in large numbers of logs being washed ashore along riverbanks. The sudden floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, have disrupted local communities and raised concerns about river safety and environmental impact.

Local authorities reported that the floods caused minor property damage but no immediate casualties. Teams from the South Tapanuli disaster management agency are conducting assessments and clearing debris to restore access and safety for residents.

Environmental experts noted that the logs likely originated from upstream forestry areas, highlighting concerns over river management and logging practices. They emphasized the need for stricter monitoring to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid river areas until conditions stabilize. Authorities continue to monitor water levels and weather forecasts to mitigate further.
