Fifty-One Warrants, Fifteen Arrests, and Two Days of Quiet Work

There is a quiet, methodical work that goes into finding people who do not wish to be found—the slow accumulation of information packages, the verification of addresses, the early mornings spent knocking on doors that may or may not open. In Calgary, that work unfolded over two days in late September, when a joint operation between the Calgary Police Service and Alberta Sheriffs resulted in fifteen arrests and the execution of fifty-one outstanding warrants .

The operation was planned over several weeks, with analytical resources preparing and reviewing approximately 120 information packages before officers were deployed. During the two-day initiative, members of the District 2 Patrol and Patrol Support Teams worked alongside the Fugitive Apprehension Sheriff Support Team, known as FASST, attending 66 residences across the city .

The results were substantial: fifteen individuals arrested, fifty-one warrants executed—including one Canada-wide warrant—five criminal charges laid, and thirty-four investigations opened . Investigators also gathered information about the possible whereabouts of other wanted individuals, verified addresses, developed new leads, and updated records to support future enforcement efforts .

Inspector Jeff Pennoyer of the Calgary Police Service framed the operation as a matter of focused resources. "Focused enforcement initiatives like this allow us to dedicate resources to locating individuals who have outstanding warrants and may otherwise be difficult to find through routine policing activities," he said. "This operation also demonstrates what can be achieved when agencies combine their knowledge, resources and specialized expertise to improve public safety" .

Such sweeps have become a recurring feature in southern Alberta over the past year. In August, a similar joint initiative in downtown Calgary resulted in eighteen arrests and ninety-one warrants executed, including twenty-five related to violent offences . In May, a northwest Calgary operation led to nine arrests and forty-two warrants . Each operation follows a similar pattern: weeks of planning, a concentrated deployment, and a list of warrants cleared from the system.

The fifty-one warrants executed in this operation represent not only arrests but cases moved forward—investigations advanced, court dates secured, and individuals brought back into the legal process. For the officers involved, the measure of success is not only in the numbers but in the quiet assurance that the system continues to function, one warrant at a time.
