Manchester, United Kingdom— Armed officers sealed off an industrial estate in Greater Manchester shortly after 11 a.m. on October 30, 2026 after a worker was shot dead during a dispute on the factory floor.
The incident happened inside a metal fabrication unit. Staff told police two colleagues had been arguing near the loading bay. The argument escalated. One man left the area and returned with a firearm. Shots were fired at close range.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics attempted resuscitation but stopped after 20 minutes. Police said the injuries were not survivable. His family was informed by liaison officers.
Workers were ordered out of the building. About 60 staff gathered in the car park while firearms officers cleared the unit. The suspect did not leave. He was found near a workbench and detained without further shots being fired.
"We had reports of threats before the shooting," one worker who asked not to be named told officers. "It was heated. Then we heard loud bangs and someone shouted to get out."
Greater Manchester Police said a shotgun was recovered. The weapon was licensed and kept on site according to initial checks. Detectives are examining whether it was taken from a secure cabinet. No other weapons were found.
The industrial estate was cordoned off for six hours. Forensic teams worked inside the unit. Officers took statements from more than a dozen witnesses. CCTV from inside the warehouse was seized.
The company issued a short statement saying it was cooperating fully and that production was halted. The Health and Safety Executive was notified. Trade union officials arrived in the afternoon to speak with staff.
Detectives said the shooting appeared targeted and not a random attack on the workforce. The suspect, also in his 40s, remained in custody at a local station. Interviews were continuing late Thursday.
Police said the cordon would be lifted overnight but the unit would remain closed pending further examination.
