Henna Virkkunen, the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, will visit gamescom for the first time in 2026. She will take part in the political opening ceremony and speak about the EU’s games strategy. She is then expected to join the opening tour with Vice-Chancellor and Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, Research Minister Dorothee Bär, and North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister President Hendrik Wüst. gamescom runs 24–30 August 2026.
