EU’s Kallas questions US rationale for tariffs, seeks clarification

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas questioned Washington’s rationale for imposing new tariffs on European goods, arguing allegations about shortcomings in the EU’s forced-labour controls were not grounded. She said the EU has strong labour conditions, including paid vacations, and suggested the comparison to US enforcement was flawed. Kallas added that the EU did not expect to be included and will seek clarification from the US, noting the bloc believed it had honoured commitments under a transatlantic trade deal. Separately, she addressed new sanctions targeting Russia.
