Egyptian Highway Incident: Microbus Rollover On Desert Route Leaves Two Dead And Eleven Injured

Cairo, Egypt—A commercial passenger microbus traveling along a primary desert highway overturned today, killing two occupants and leaving eleven others injured. The high-capacity transit van swerved off the paved lanes at high speed, rolling over multiple times on the sandy highway shoulder. Shattered window glass, passenger luggage, and vehicle trim scattered across both lanes of the transit route.

Egyptian Ambulance Authority response units dispatched multiple teams to the crash site, securing the immediate perimeter along the desert highway. Paramedics extracted trapped occupants from the mangled steel frame before transporting eleven injured individuals to a nearby regional hospital. Medical officers confirmed four victims sustained severe orthopedic fractures and remain under close observation.

According to preliminary accident reports published by Cairo24, the rollover occurred when the microbus experienced a sudden high-speed rear tire blowout. The driver lost steering control along an unlit stretch of asphalt, sending the vehicle sliding sideways across the unpaved shoulder before flipping onto its roof.

"The bus started wobbling violently before turning completely sideways and flipping down the embankment," said a truck driver who witnessed the crash from a trailing vehicle. "It kicked up a massive cloud of dust that blinded following traffic."

Traffic police officers closed down the affected highway section, directing long-haul transport trucks onto secondary service corridors. Heavy breakdown cranes moved onto the site to lift the crushed microbus chassis onto a flatbed transport vehicle and clear the lanes of debris.

The fatal crash highlights persistent highway safety challenges across Egypt’s extensive desert road network, where high travel speeds, degraded tire integrity, and limited night lighting frequently result in severe rollover incidents. Transport safety authorities continue to enforce vehicle tire checks and speed enforcement sweeps along major intercity highways.

Traffic police detained the microbus operator for blood alcohol screening and formal questioning regarding passenger load capacity and vehicle maintenance records.

Road maintenance crews swept loose sand and cleared mechanical oil from the pavement, enabling highway patrols to fully reopen the desert corridor by late afternoon.
