KYIV — A wave of Russian ballistic missiles struck Ukraine’s capital overnight, hitting a university building and residential areas. The attack left at least one person dead and over a dozen others injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene in eastern Kyiv, where blast waves shattered structures, set vehicles ablaze, and buried victims under rubble.
The bombardment targeted multiple locations across the capital’s Desnianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts. The primary point of impact severely damaged educational facilities and student accommodation housing young adults.
Air defense systems scrambled shortly after air-raid sirens echoed throughout Kyiv, but the high-velocity ballistic missiles gave residents only minutes to seek shelter before explosions rocked the city. Near the university campus, blast waves tore through student dormitories and administrative premises.
"Most of those injured were young students resting inside their accommodation when the blast blew out the windows and interior walls," noted local emergency officials who were dispatched to clear debris and assist casualties.
Rescuers confirmed that one victim was found dead in a nearby non-residential building partially destroyed by the strikes. Paramedics and first responders treating the wounded were also caught in the crossfire as localized secondary damage affected dispatched medical crews.
The missile attack also inflicted collateral damage on nearby medical facilities, shattering windows in intensive care units and surrounding civilian infrastructure. Transport networks were disrupted across the district as debris littered roadways, forcing municipal teams to secure damaged power lines and clear burning vehicles.
Ukrainian authorities condemned the renewed barrage on civilian and educational infrastructure, urging international partners to bolster air defense systems over major urban centers as forensic teams continue gathering evidence from missile impact sites across the capital.
In response to the assault, municipal crews and volunteer organizations set up temporary emergency relief hubs near the affected campus to provide immediate housing, warm meals, and psychological support to displaced students and residents. International observers and human rights groups once again highlighted the severe toll of strikes targeting civil infrastructure, while local municipal leaders pledged to mobilize city restoration funds to secure damaged structures against the onset of winter weather.
