Cross-Border Assault: Saudi Regional Airports Hit in Dual Strikes, Three Injured

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Dual cross-border attacks targeted regional airports in Saudi Arabia’s southern border regions of Jazan and Najran late Monday night, October 5, 2026, causing minor injuries to three airport staff members and inflicting physical damage to passenger terminal facilities.

The coalition military forces led by Saudi Arabia confirmed that defense systems intercepted multiple explosive-laden drones and projectiles directed at King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Jazan and Najran Domestic Airport. However, shrapnel from intercepted drones and direct impacts from low-flying munitions caused localized disruptions across both facilities.

At King Abdullah Airport in Jazan, falling debris struck an operational apron and damaged a glass facade of the arrival terminal. Ground officials confirmed that two ground handling personnel received treatment for minor cuts and abrasions from flying glass. Flight operations were briefly suspended as emergency crews swept the runways and cleared structural debris.

Simultaneously, a second coordinated strike targeted Najran Domestic Airport, damaging a service maintenance hangar and injuring one security officer. Firefighters deployed rapidly to extinguish a localized blaze triggered by fuel vapor near a service transport vehicle.

The Saudi-led Coalition condemned the attacks as deliberate attempts to target civilian infrastructure and disrupt commercial air transport across the southern province. Military spokespersons stated that retaliatory precision strikes were immediately launched against launch positions across the border to neutralize further threats.

Saudi aviation authorities confirmed that both airports resumed limited commercial flight schedules by early Tuesday morning following rigorous safety assessments. Enhanced air defense batteries and surveillance assets have been deployed around critical civilian transit hubs across the region to ensure passenger safety and maintain air space stability.

International energy and maritime risk analysts noted that while oil infrastructure remained unaffected, the renewed aerial targeting of civil aviation hubs highlights ongoing regional volatility. United Nations envoys called on all involved parties to exercise immediate restraint to prevent a broader military escalation, emphasizing the imperative of safeguarding critical civilian infrastructure and civilian transit routes under international law.
