Collision at Top Speed: Two Tornadoes Army Bikers Crash During Thrilling Stunt Rehearsal in Mysuru

MYSURU — What was meant to be a high-octane display of military precision and daredevilry took a harrowing turn in Mysuru when two motorcycles belonging to the Indian Army’s elite ASC Tornadoes display team collided at high speed during a live rehearsal session.

The incident unfolded at the grounds during practice runs for an upcoming public performance. Eyewitnesses reported that the riders were executing a complex, synchronized criss-cross maneuver—a staple of the Tornadoes' thrill-seeking repertoire—when the gap between the two approaching motorcycles closed too quickly.

The high-stakes drill involved multiple bikes crossing paths at tight angles with split-second timing. As the riders accelerated toward the center mark, one bike appeared to lose slight traction or timing, clipping the incoming motorcycle in a split second.

The force of the impact threw both riders from their machines as the motorcycles skidded across the tarmac, sending sparks and debris across the practice field. Emergency medical crews and army support staff stationed at the venue rushed onto the field within seconds to assist the fallen riders and secure the area.

"It happened in a fraction of a second. They were moving at incredible speeds, perfectly lined up, and suddenly there was a sharp crash," recalled an onlooker present near the perimeter. "The response from the backup team was instant."

Both servicemen were swiftly transported to a nearby military hospital for medical evaluation. Early reports indicate that both soldiers escaped major life-threatening injuries, largely thanks to their heavy protective riding gear, specialized helmets, and rigorous safety training.

The motorcycles sustained noticeable damage, and army technicians immediately impounded the machines for a technical review to determine whether a mechanical glitch or timing mismatch caused the mishap.

Formed in 1982, the Army Service Corps (ASC) Tornadoes motorcycle display team is world-renowned for pushing the boundaries of human endurance and machine control. Holding scores of Guinness and World Records—ranging from massive human pyramids on moving bikes to record-breaking long-distance rides—the team undergoes relentless discipline to pull off maneuvers where the margin for error is virtually zero.

Army officials emphasized that rehearsals of this nature inherently carry high risk, but stringent safety protocols ensure that riders are equipped to survive high-speed impacts.

Following safety checks and a thorough briefing, the Tornadoes team is expected to resume their practice schedule, demonstrating once again the resilience and grit that defines the Indian armed forces.
