A British man, Rashad Sultanov, has been arrested in Cyprus on suspicion of conducting hostile surveillance at RAF Akrotiri and passing information to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), London police said. Prosecutors said the alleged surveillance occurred between May 11 and June 22 last year. The 44-year-old, who also has Azerbaijani nationality, was arrested on July 17 and remains in custody as extradition proceedings progress. The case is described as the first overseas National Security Act investigation by the UK.
