Brazil’s top electoral court ordered Meta to ensure equal treatment of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his opponent Flávio Bolsonaro ahead of an Oct. 25 runoff. The ruling followed Lula’s complaint alleging that Meta’s algorithms and artificial intelligence tools restricted his campaign’s reach while boosting Bolsonaro. Justice Marco Aurélio Bellizze barred Meta from limiting political content or searches in ways that favor either candidate and required identical AI criteria. The court set a daily 500,000-real fine for noncompliance.
