Botev Plovdiv Owner Iliyan Filipov Shot Dead in Plovdiv

Iliyan Filipov, president of Bulgaria’s Botev Plovdiv football club and owner of major transport company PIMK, was shot dead near his home in Plovdiv early Wednesday. Police found the 53-year-old businessman after receiving a report of gunfire and opened an investigation. Authorities cordoned off the area and restricted traffic while forensic teams examined the scene. Officials have not disclosed a motive or named suspects. The killing has shocked Bulgaria, recalling the organized-crime violence that marked the country during the 1990s
