Blazing Inferno Hits Residential Area in Barangay Central, Quezon City

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES — A massive fire swept through a residential neighborhood in Barangay Central on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 destroying multiple homes and forcing families to evacuate as thick black smoke billowed across the city skyline.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and local volunteer fire brigades from across the city responded swiftly to the emergency calls. Firefighters immediately raised the alarm level to deploy additional fire trucks as they fought to contain the fast-moving flames, which spread rapidly through closely built houses made mostly of light materials.

Chaos erupted in the narrow alleyways of the community as residents rushed to rescue their loved ones and salvage whatever belongings they could. Local rescue teams and barangay officials worked to safely evacuate affected families to the nearest designated evacuation center and community basketball court.

The BFP-Quezon City is currently investigating the cause of the blaze and assessing the total cost of property damage. Meanwhile, local government units are coordinating to provide immediate relief, including food packages, clean water, and temporary shelter, to the displaced residents.

Preliminary reports from fire marshals suggest that an electrical short circuit in an unattended structure may have sparked the initial blaze, which was further fueled by strong midday winds. Witnesses noted that narrow access roads initially hindered large fire engines from directly reaching the heart of the flames, prompting firefighters to run long hose lines through surrounding streets to suppress the fire.

Social welfare officers have begun registering affected households at the evacuation site to distribute emergency relief packs, hygiene kits, and financial aid. City health officials are also on-site providing medical evaluations, respiratory checks for smoke inhalation, and psychological first aid to residents displaced by the disaster.
