SINGAPORE — A major fire broke out at a semi-detached landed property along Park Villas Green in the Hougang estate on Saturday evening, October 3, 2026 sending thick smoke across the surrounding neighborhood as emergency responders rushed to battle the blaze.
Nearby residents alerted authorities after hearing what sounded like a loud explosion around 6:30 PM. Minutes later, flames and billowing black smoke were seen rising from the double-storey semi-detached home.
Upon receiving emergency calls, Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) personnel were dispatched to the scene, deploying multiple fire engines and emergency vehicles to contain the blaze.
Firefighters deployed water jets to surround the residential property and prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining semi-detached homes in the quiet landed estate.
Fire crews conducted entry and Search-and-Rescue (SAR) operations inside the residence while battling intense heat and smoke. Following the main suppression efforts, SCDF personnel carried out extensive dampening down operations into the night to prevent potential rekindling from hidden hotspots embedded within the structure.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and occupants of the neighboring units were alerted as a safety precaution.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by SCDF fire investigators.
Local community leaders and neighborhood watch groups have also stepped in to offer temporary assistance and shelter arrangements for the affected homeowners as recovery efforts begin. Authorities have urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any potential hazard signs promptly to local security teams.
In light of recent residential fire incidents, emergency services remind the public to maintain key household fire safety practices. Residents should avoid overloading electrical power sockets or daisy-chaining multi-plug extension cords, and remember to unplug high-wattage appliances while avoiding overnight or unattended charging of battery-operated devices. Additionally, all lighted materials—such as incense sticks, candles, or cigarettes—must be completely extinguished before disposal.
