Blaze at Brisbane’s Greek Club: Fire Breaks Out in External Cold Room

WEST END — Emergency services rushed to Musgrave Park on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 after an external commercial cold room caught fire at Brisbane’s iconic Greek Club, sending plumes of smoke across the West End skyline.

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews responded to the scene on Edmondstone Street following urgent 000 calls. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a well-involved blaze originating from an outdoor refrigeration unit adjacent to the main building.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus quickly isolated the power supply and worked to contain the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to the primary club facilities and adjacent function spaces.

"Firefighters acted swiftly to surround the blaze and establish a defensive line," a QFES spokesperson confirmed. "Thanks to the rapid response, the damage was successfully localized to the external cold storage structure, and the main venue was saved from major structural harm."

No injuries were reported, as staff and patrons on-site were safely evacuated without incident. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, initial assessments suggest an electrical or mechanical fault within the refrigeration unit’s compressor system may have sparked the unit.

The Greek Club, a staple of Brisbane’s hospitality and cultural scene for over 40 years, expressed gratitude for the prompt response of emergency crews and confirmed that assessment and cleanup efforts are already underway.

In the hours following the incident, local business owners and community members rallied around the venue, offering assistance with temporary storage solutions and event relocations. Club management assured the public that scheduled functions and dining operations would resume as quickly as possible once safety inspections are completed and power to affected auxiliary systems is fully restored.

The incident serves as a timely reminder for commercial establishments regarding the maintenance of heavy-duty refrigeration equipment. QFES fire investigators, alongside technical experts, are expected to conclude their inspection of the damaged unit by Wednesday to officially confirm the trigger and ensure all surrounding infrastructure remains safe for full operation.
