For many businesses, growth begins with a question that is quieter than the final investment figure: where will the financing come from? In Cambodia, the Credit Guarantee Corporation of Cambodia, or CGCC, has approved guaranteed loans worth $610 million across 10,623 accounts as of August 31, 2026.
The figures provide a view of how credit guarantees are being used to connect businesses with formal financing. By sharing part of the lending risk, the mechanism is designed to help enterprises that may have difficulty securing conventional loans because of limited collateral.
The approved accounts span loan and bond portfolios. The outstanding guaranteed amount stood at $194.97 million, while the gross non-performing guarantee rate was reported at 9.12 percent.
Within the securities market, CGCC had also approved guarantees for two bond accounts with a combined value of $30 million. Of that amount, $20 million remained active, with a reported non-performing guarantee rate of zero percent.
The role of the guarantee system is particularly relevant to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which often operate with fewer assets available as collateral. Under different schemes, CGCC can guarantee between 70 and 90 percent of principal loan amounts, helping participating financial institutions extend financing while sharing part of the risk.
The supported sectors include agro-processing, manufacturing, trade, women-led businesses and rice exports. Each represents a different part of Cambodia’s economic landscape, from agricultural production and processing to commercial activity and export-oriented industries.
Credit access can have a slow and practical effect. A loan may first appear as machinery purchased for a workshop, additional inventory in a warehouse, a new production line or working capital for an expanding enterprise. The financial figure eventually becomes something physical and visible in the economy.
At the same time, guaranteed lending does not remove the underlying responsibility of borrowers or lenders. The reported non-performing guarantee rate shows that credit continues to carry risk, even when mechanisms are in place to share part of that exposure.
As Cambodia’s industrial and trade activity expands, access to finance remains one of the threads connecting larger economic ambitions with individual businesses. The CGCC figures through August show how that thread has been extended across thousands of accounts, placing credit guarantees among the instruments supporting business activity in the country.
