A balanced industrial strategy must take these differences into account.

Despite the pressures, Italy’s manufacturing sector retains important strengths. Its experience in specialized production, design, engineering, and craftsmanship continues to offer opportunities in international markets.

As the European economy moves through a period of transition, Italian industry will be required to combine tradition with innovation. The future may not belong solely to the largest factories, but to the companies capable of responding carefully and consistently to a world that continues to change around them.
