Yet the September picture was not without pressure. Input costs increased at their fastest rate in four months, with companies pointing to higher fuel and energy costs. Rising operating expenses can make an otherwise improving business environment more difficult to navigate.

The combination of stronger activity and higher costs leaves Germany's recovery moving along two parallel tracks. Businesses are receiving signs of improved demand, but they must also manage a renewed inflationary environment.

September's data therefore captures a moment of transition. Services returned to growth, manufacturing remained above the expansion threshold, and employment improved, while energy-related costs continued to cast a longer shadow over business planning. Germany's economic landscape was moving forward, but the path remained shaped by both renewed activity and persistent cost pressures.
