Bandits Kill Islamic Teacher, Abduct at Least 10 Residents in Sokoto Attack

SOKOTO, NIGERIA — An Islamic teacher was killed and at least ten residents were abducted after heavily armed bandits launched a late-night raid on Gidan Kare village in the Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

According to local sources, the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles around 1:30 a.m., shooting sporadically into the air to instill panic among villagers. The slain Islamic teacher, identified by community leaders as Mallam Aliyu, was shot inside his residence during the chaos as he attempted to protect his family from the armed assailants.
