Australian MP Helen Haines had both legs amputated after being struck by a car outside her office in Wangaratta. Her husband, Phil Haines, said her left leg was amputated that day and doctors amputated her right leg on Wednesday after they could not save it. The 65-year-old remains in critical but stable condition in Melbourne. Brendan Nugent, 43, faces charges of dangerous driving causing serious injury, intentionally causing serious injury and harming a Commonwealth official. Police are investigating the motive.
