Attard, Malta— A 31-year-old Colombian man died on October 17, 2026 after the motorcycle he was riding crashed in Attard, with police confirming the fatality on site.
The accident happened in the morning hours along a central road in the locality. The rider lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle onto the asphalt. Emergency crews arrived shortly after.
Paramedics attempted resuscitation at the scene. The man was pronounced dead a short time later. Police said the victim was a Colombian national residing in Malta.
The road was closed to traffic as officers cordoned the area. Debris from the motorcycle was scattered across the lane. Forensic investigators marked the road surface and photographed the position of the bike.
"The area was secured and traffic was diverted. A magisterial inquiry has been launched," a police spokesperson said in a statement. Officers are speaking to witnesses who were in the area at the time.
Attard is a busy commuter zone and the closure caused backups through nearby streets. Drivers were directed through alternative routes while the investigation continued.
Authorities are examining speed, road condition, and whether another vehicle was involved. No other injuries were reported. The motorcycle was towed for mechanical checks.
The body was transferred to Mater Dei Hospital for a post-mortem. Police said next of kin have been informed and the inquiry remains active.
