A volunteer animal rescuer in Lebanon is taking in pets and livestock left behind as the conflict displaces families and damages homes and farms. Rescuers say many animals are stranded once people flee—unable to find food, water, or protection—while local shelters and animal welfare groups face mounting pressure.
The rescue groups say they are working to bring animals to safety, provide emergency food and veterinary care, and support shelters that have limited supplies. Alongside dogs and cats, the effort also includes livestock that can’t be transported easily when families are forced to leave quickly.
Displaced families have also been urged not to leave companion animals behind, with animal welfare organizations sharing guidance on evacuation readiness and contacting local animal support resources when possible.
As the fighting continues, rescuers say their work is focused on triage—helping injured animals first, distributing supplies to shelters, and coordinating with local partners and volunteers to reach areas where aid access is limited.
