Two women succumbed to crush injuries prior to extraction. Searchers pulled four survivors, including a child, from a protected pocket under a reinforced ground-floor doorway, transporting them directly to Alexandria Main University Hospital.

"Substandard modifications combined with unpermitted floor additions weakened the primary structural columns past their load-bearing capacity," stated a municipal engineering inspector evaluating the site. "Salt-air exposure over decades further eroded the concrete reinforcement, accelerating structural failure."

Municipal engineers ordered the immediate evacuation of two adjoining residential structures amid fears of secondary settlement. Police established a secure perimeter, restricting access across three residential blocks.

Local administration officials confirmed the building had received an official restoration and removal order two years prior. Housing records reveal property owners ignored repeated administrative warnings to conduct structural repairs or vacate residents.

Alexandria's dense older neighborhoods frequently suffer catastrophic structural failures. Unregulated construction, illegal extra stories, and inadequate building code enforcement plague aging urban zones across the port city.

Prosecution teams launched a formal inquiry into the property management firm responsible for the structure. Municipal police detained the building administrator for questioning regarding municipal citation compliance.
