Across Amsterdam's Digital Horizon, Adyen's Stronger Growth Opens a New Chapter for Global Payments Technology

Much of modern commerce happens without the visible movement once associated with shopping. A customer taps a screen, confirms a purchase, and somewhere across a network of computers, money begins moving between businesses and financial institutions. In Amsterdam, Adyen has built much of its business around that quiet movement.

The Dutch payments company raised its 2026 net revenue growth forecast to between 21% and 23%, compared with its previous guidance of 20% to 22%. The revised outlook followed stronger first-half performance and the company's recent acquisitions of Talon. One and Orb.

Adyen reported first-half net revenue of about €1.30 billion on a constant-currency basis, representing 21% growth. Its processed payment volume reached approximately €803.8 billion, a 24% increase, showing the scale of transactions passing through its platform.

The company’s recent acquisitions have expanded its reach beyond the basic mechanics of payment processing. Talon. One provides loyalty and promotion technology, while Orb is focused on billing. Together, the acquisitions give Adyen additional tools for merchants seeking to understand and retain customers after the payment itself has taken place.

That shift matters as shopping habits continue to evolve. Increasingly, consumers encounter products through digital platforms, recommendations, and automated systems rather than by visiting a store or searching directly on a retailer's website. Payment companies are consequently becoming part of a much broader technological landscape.

Artificial intelligence is adding another layer to that transformation. Adyen has warned that AI shopping assistants could increasingly recommend products, select merchants, and even complete payments on behalf of consumers. For retailers, this could make maintaining a direct relationship with customers more difficult.

The company is responding by expanding tools intended to strengthen customer loyalty and support new forms of AI-enabled payments. It has also been increasing investment in computing and storage infrastructure as demand for artificial intelligence creates new requirements across the technology sector.

Despite the stronger revenue outlook, Adyen’s first-half adjusted EBITDA of €641.5 million came in slightly below expectations, partly reflecting higher costs associated with its acquisitions. The company nevertheless maintained its longer-term focus on building a broader technology platform for merchants.

The market reaction was immediate. Adyen shares rose sharply after the revised forecast was announced, reflecting renewed confidence among investors following a period in which the company's market value had fallen substantially.

For Adyen, the next stage will involve turning stronger transaction volumes and new technology capabilities into sustainable growth. The company now expects 2026 net revenue growth of 21% to 23%, while its expanding role in digital commerce places it increasingly close to the intersection of payments, loyalty technology, and artificial intelligence.
