Mykola Kasiuk lost an eye and most of his vision when a land mine exploded in eastern Ukraine in 2024. After two years and numerous operations, he is hoping a visiting team of U.S. surgeons can help him see again. Doctors are performing complex eye and facial reconstruction while training Ukrainian specialists. Kasiuk can still detect faint light, and his doctors say the extent of possible recovery remains uncertain. Before surgery, he told the team: “I want to be able to see my children again.”
