OVERASSELT, Netherlands — Dutch police have arrested 34 suspects following an intense, gangland-style gunfight early Tuesday morning that left one man dead and two police officers injured in the quiet eastern village of Overasselt.
The shootout erupted around 4:00 a.m. local time after authorities responded to reports of suspicious activity involving a large group of masked men outside a residential property. Upon arrival, officers were ambushed as roughly 30 individuals wearing balaclavas—some armed with automatic rifles—opened fire on emergency responders. Officers returned fire while rendering first aid to wounded colleagues under heavy gun bursts.
