Francis Halzen has received the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin. His vision helped transform a cubic kilometre of Antarctic ice into a vast particle detector. Sensors capture faint flashes produced when neutrinos collide with atomic nuclei. Because neutrinos travel through space largely undeflected, they provide unique clues about powerful cosmic accelerators and violent events beyond our solar system. The award recognizes his achievement.
