XRP Ledger Crosses 5 Billion Transactions as RLUSD Surpasses $2 Billion

The XRP Ledger has reached one of the largest milestones in its history, surpassing 5 billion cumulative transactions as activity across the network continues to expand.

Data from XRPScan cited in reporting on August 27 showed approximately 5.016 billion transactions recorded on XRPL since June 2012.

The milestone arrives during an unusually active period for the XRP ecosystem.

Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has also crossed $2 billion in market capitalization, while close to $1 billion of RLUSD has been issued on the XRP Ledger.

Together, the developments highlight an important shift in the XRP story: attention is increasingly moving beyond XRP's market price toward the financial activity being built and processed on its underlying network.

XRPL Passes 5 Billion Transactions

Crossing 5 billion transactions provides a long-term measure of XRP Ledger usage.

XRPL has been operating since 2012 and was designed around rapid settlement, relatively low transaction costs and continuous operation.

According to XRPScan data cited by Finbold, the ledger had recorded 5,016,297,013 transactions between June 2, 2012 and August 27, 2026.

The figure includes more than simple XRP transfers.

XRPL supports payments, decentralized exchange activity, issued assets, stablecoins, tokenized assets and other ledger operations.

That means the 5 billion figure should be viewed as a measure of cumulative network activity rather than 5 billion individual XRP payments.

Why 5 Billion Matters

Crypto markets frequently focus on price.

Blockchain networks, however, can also be evaluated through the amount of activity occurring underneath those prices.

For XRPL, surpassing 5 billion transactions demonstrates more than a decade of continuous ledger usage.

It also arrives as Ripple and the wider developer ecosystem attempt to broaden XRPL's role from primarily payments infrastructure toward a platform supporting stablecoins, tokenization, institutional finance and onchain markets.

The milestone does not prove that institutional adoption is accelerating on its own.

But it provides an important benchmark for the scale the network has already processed.

RLUSD Crosses $2 Billion

The second major development comes from Ripple's stablecoin.

Ripple announced this week that RLUSD had surpassed $2 billion in market capitalization, less than two years after launching in December 2024.

Approximately $962.8 million of RLUSD was on the XRP Ledger around the milestone, according to reporting based on available supply data.

The remainder was primarily distributed across other supported blockchain infrastructure, including Ethereum.

That distinction is important.

RLUSD's total $2 billion market capitalization should not be described as $2 billion sitting entirely on XRPL.

Nevertheless, having close to $1 billion of the stablecoin issued on the XRP Ledger represents a significant addition to the network's dollar-denominated liquidity.

RLUSD Is Growing Rapidly on XRPL

The rate of RLUSD growth on the XRP Ledger is particularly noteworthy.

Reporting indicates XRPL-based RLUSD supply increased from approximately $340.3 million in March to about $962.8 million around the latest milestone.

That represents close to a tripling of the XRPL portion in roughly five months.

Stablecoin supply alone, however, isn't enough to establish real-world adoption.

The stronger indicators going forward will include transfer volumes, redemptions, payments, settlement activity and integration into external financial applications.

XRP and RLUSD Serve Different Purposes

The relationship between RLUSD and XRP remains one of the most important distinctions for the XRP community.

RLUSD is designed to maintain a value close to one U.S. dollar.

XRP is XRPL's native digital asset.

XRP is required for core network functions, including transaction fees and account reserves, while RLUSD provides users and institutions with a dollar-denominated asset.

Therefore, RLUSD reaching $2 billion does not automatically create $2 billion of XRP demand.

Users can hold and transfer RLUSD without purchasing large quantities of XRP.

The potential XRP connection is broader: increasing financial activity on XRPL expands the ecosystem surrounding the network's native asset.

Ripple Is Giving RLUSD More Uses

Ripple is also attempting to move RLUSD beyond simple stablecoin transfers.

The company has positioned it for applications including payments, trading, tokenized assets and institutional finance.

A recently announced initiative involving Ripple, Clearpool and Cicada Partners is expected to use RLUSD in an institutional credit structure providing working-capital financing to fintech and payments companies.

That could create another category of activity around the stablecoin: lending.

The important metric will be whether these integrations generate sustained usage rather than simply increasing circulating supply.

XRPL's Institutional Infrastructure Is Expanding

Ripple has simultaneously been investing in infrastructure designed to connect XRPL with traditional capital markets.

Earlier this month, Ripple announced investments in ZILO and Licuido to add capabilities around regulated transfer agency, digital asset issuance and collateral mobility to its institutional infrastructure.

Ripple Prime has expanded the company's presence in institutional brokerage.

Ripple Payments continues targeting cross-border settlement.

RLUSD provides stablecoin infrastructure.

XRPL provides the underlying blockchain environment for a growing range of those applications.

The strategy increasingly resembles a financial technology stack rather than a single cryptocurrency payment product.

XRP Price Is Consolidating After Its Rally

The network milestones arrive while XRP's market price cools following its aggressive August recovery.

XRP was trading around $1.41 on August 27 in one current market snapshot after its recent rally pushed the asset well above its early-August lows.

Another current analysis noted that XRP recently reached approximately $1.66 before retreating toward $1.44, with leveraged liquidations contributing to the pullback.

This again highlights the distinction between XRP's short-term market performance and XRPL's underlying development.

Network milestones can continue even while XRP experiences significant price volatility.

What This Means for XRP

For XRP followers, the 5 billion transaction milestone may be more meaningful as a long-term infrastructure signal than as an immediate trading catalyst.

It doesn't guarantee XRP will rise.

Neither does RLUSD crossing $2 billion.

But the combination shows that XRPL is operating at significant historical scale while new forms of digital value continue being introduced to the network.

The longer-term question is whether stablecoins, tokenized assets, institutional payments and other financial products create substantially greater sustained activity on XRPL.

If they do, XRP would remain the native asset of a considerably larger financial ecosystem.

Final Take

Two important numbers now define the latest XRP Ledger story:

5 billion+ cumulative XRPL transactions.

$2 billion+ RLUSD market capitalization.

The first represents more than a decade of network activity. The second demonstrates how rapidly Ripple's stablecoin ecosystem is expanding.

Neither milestone guarantees higher XRP prices, and RLUSD growth should not be presented as equivalent XRP demand.

But together they demonstrate how much the XRP ecosystem is changing.

XRPL is increasingly becoming a network for multiple forms of digital value — from XRP and stable coins to tokenized assets and institutional financial applications.

The next milestone that matters may therefore be less about how many transactions XRPL has processed historically and more about what kind of real-world financial activity produces the next billion.
